Candidate must have exposure of injection plant

Production Department in the pharmaceutical industry is responsible for manufacturing drugs and ensuring they meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. It involves multiple stages, from raw material processing to packaging and final product release.

Key Functions of the Production Department

  1. Raw Material Processing

    • Receiving and inspecting raw materials (active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, solvents, etc.).
    • Ensuring materials comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  2. Manufacturing & Formulation

    • Weighing and mixing raw materials as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Granulation, drying, compression (for tablets), and encapsulation.
    • Sterile production for injectables and liquid formulations.
  3. In-Process Quality Control (IPQC)

    • Monitoring critical parameters during manufacturing.
    • Conducting in-process testing for weight, hardness, uniformity, and contamination control.
  4. Packaging & Labeling

    • Primary packaging (bottles, blisters, ampoules, vials).
    • Secondary packaging (cartons, boxes, labels).
    • Ensuring proper batch numbers, expiry dates, and traceability.
  5. Documentation & Compliance

    • Maintaining batch manufacturing records (BMR) and batch packaging records (BPR).
    • Following Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
    • Ensuring compliance with FDA, EMA, WHO, and local regulatory authorities.
  6. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

    • Regular maintenance and validation of manufacturing equipment.
    • Calibration of weighing balances, mixers, filling machines, and other equipment.
  7. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & Safety

    • Implementing cleanroom protocols and hygiene standards.
    • Ensuring personnel wear appropriate protective gear (PPE).
    • Preventing cross-contamination and ensuring sterility where required.

Types of Pharmaceutical Production

  • Solid Dosage Forms: Tablets, capsules, powders.
  • Liquid Dosage Forms: Syrups, suspensions, injections.
  • Semi-Solid Dosage Forms: Creams, ointments, gels.
  • Biopharmaceuticals: Vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins.
