Our client is a Melbourne-based biotechnology company developing first in class therapies. An innovative start up, backed by international Venture Capital funding, and an experienced team, they have a huge potential to change the future of treatment of patient outcomes associated with fibrosis and related disorders.
The role
Reporting to the COO, this newly created role will lead their research activities contributing to key projects that will make a significant impact in the lives of millions of patients. You will plan, develop and coordinate activities associated with the laboratory research and drug development program. You may still be 'hands on' in the laboratory or have stepped away to oversee the projects in drug development for your organisation. Your remit includes:
- Formulation and communication of research plans to explore the mechanism of action (MOA) and guide drug development.
- Conduct research on MOA, in vitro and in vivo efficacy and other research as appropriate internally and/or in partnership with CRO or academic collaborators.
- Primary technical expert, offering guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Specify the requirements and resource their new state-of-the-art new labs based in a Biomedical Precinct in Melbourne.
- Lead the hiring of an RA; and provide effective leadership and mentoring of the RA.
- Support CRO activities, including technical transfer, vendor identification, review and tracking of programs.
- Support writing, review, and filing of regulatory documents including those associated with INDs and product registration submissions.
- Be the lead author on scientific publications for submission to high-impact journals, as well be an inventor on and support the writing of new patent applications.
- Write grant proposals to build on the success the company has already had.
The Expertise
- Tertiary-level post graduate qualification in cell or molecular biology, or related field
- Ideally industry experience or applied research in drug development.
- Wide range of molecular and cell biology techniques
- Ideally managed more junior researchers and/or technicians.
- Excellent understanding of the drug development process
- Good documentation records management to assist in the regulatory and patenting process.
